Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Vienna

Meet your private guide at the Vienna airport, who will transfer you to your hotel. After breakfast, set off with your guide on an introductory tour to explore the wide lanes of the city dotted with buildings of white marble and green and gold copper rooftops. Admire the baroque palaces and imposing Gothic churches. This evening, indulge yourself in folk music and delicious traditional food in a local restaurant. Retire to your hotel for the night. 

Day 2: Discover the capital city

Today, your tour begins with the Imperial Suites in the Hofburg Palace, to understand the opulence of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Soak in the art at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, with its collection of European masterpieces. Your guide will transport you around the city by private vehicle and can tailor the day to your interests. This evening, have a lovely Austrian meal in one of Viennas finest restaurants.

Day 3: A Drive Through Wachau

Your guide will drive you north of Vienna this morning through the Danube Valley to explore the premier wine region of Wachau. The gentle hillside slopes assist in the perfect cultivation of vines to produce quality wines such as the ultra-dry Welschriesling and the Grner Veltliner. Relish some fine Austrian wine with the local food to make the most of your visit. 

 

Continue along the valley with the scenic beauty of vineyards  on one side and the sparkling blue water of the river on the other. Look up to spot a castle or an abbey perched on a hilltop. Visit the lovely town of Drnstein where the  vivid houses and twisting lanes look like a scene in a storybook. Climb  up to the remains of Schloss Drnstein to get a panoramic view of the valley. Visit the  famous Baroque monastery in Melk before continuing to your next hotel in Steyr.

Day 4: Medieval Steyr

Today, tour Steyr with your guide and be transported back into medieval times.After exploring the town, continue to the nearby Kalkalpen National Park. There are many hiking trails through the park, including the 200-kilometer-long Luch trail that passes through the Austrian wilderness. Your guide will help you select the best of the shorter trails for you today. 

Day 5: Hiking in Steyr

Today, continue hiking parts of the Luchs trail. For a challenging, yet picturesque climb, there is a 7-hour trail that covers Damberg, the house mountain of Steyr. For a shorter and less fatiguing hike (about one hour), go to the highest point of the Damberg and climb the watchtower for a better view.  

Day 6: Exploring Salzkammergut

Today, the tour continues in the resort area of  Salzkammergut, which was historically a salt mine. Today, it is known for some of the most beautiful scenery in the nation. Also visit  Bad Ischi, where the Hapsburg royal family spent their summers because of its refreshing springs, fresh air and gorgeous mountains. 

Day 7: Drive through the Grossglockner

Today your guide will drive you along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road,a world-famous mountain pass through the Alps connecting Carinthia and Salzburg. The road culminates at the Edelweissspitze at an altitude of 2000 meters after 36 incredible turns. Marvel at the extraordinary views of the Alps at each turn. There are many photo opportunities at viewpoints along the way.  You can also see Grossglockner Mountain, on this route, one of the nation's highest mountain ranges at 3798 meters.

Day 8: A journey to Innsbruck

Today, explore Innsbruck, a little university city with a rich social scene and great nightlife. Find out more about Altstadt, the citys Old Town which endured World War II. Then, learn all about Austria's culture at the Volksmuseum. In the evening, discover the hip nightlife.

Day 9: Vienna - Departure

Today, your private guide will transfer you to the airport for your international departure.
