Witness The Ford Signature Series Lila Downs with Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company
If you crave art and culture then look no farther. Check out the latest of the Ford Signature Series events as they pair Lila Downs with Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company at the Ford Theatres (located at 2580 Cahuenga Boulevard) in East Hollywood, California on both Friday and Saturday evening, August 12 and 13, 2016 at 8 p.m. No door time is specified but it is always a good rule of thumb to arrive at least one-half hour prior to any live performance.
According to a recent email, The Ford Signature Series presents both “world-renowned performers with Los Angeles County artists for one-of-a-kind experiences.” This time the FSS brings you the Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American singer and songwriter Lila Downs. Downs is perhaps most famous for her “ inventive fusion of international sounds” and her innovative method of making music in general.
Downs will be sharing the Ford stage with Los Angeles’ very own premier Folklorico dance troupe the Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company in a performance that will focus on “traditional Mexican celebrations from indigenous cultures and regions of Mexico.” The statement adds that her “Mixtec Indian heritage infuses her reinterpretations” of several separate music genres -- blues, cumbia, jazz, klezmer, rap, rock, and soul -- with native Mesoamerican and traditional Mexican music. The multi-lingual performer will be singing songs in English, Spanish and even the Mixtec languages of the Zapotec, Mayan and Nahuatl cultures. In a recent email, event promoters note that attendees should “dress warmly for outdoor seating” and that this performance is brought to you by “Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl.” They also add that the program was originally “created with support from former Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.” They conclude that the “[p]roceeds from the Signature Series benefit the Ford Theatre Foundation, which supports programs at the Ford Theatres in Hollywood and throughout Los Angeles County.”
Ticket prices presently range between $30.00 and $70.00. Additional service charges and fees may apply. Parking is an additional $5.00 to $10.00 per vehicle. In a press release, the venue notes that there is a new off-site parking location also available. There are “free shuttle services” and the parking there is $10.00 for theatre patrons. “Shuttle departures begin two hours before show time and reservations are required.” There is also a free shuttle available to Metro riders that “picks up from the Universal City/Studio City Metro Station” ( located at 3913 Lankershim Boulevard in Studio City). The shuttle “cycles every 20 minutes” and “stops in the ‘kiss and ride’ area.” For further information regarding the purchase of tickets and/or the event itself, interested parties should visit this website.
