DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Explore the Karikoo Markets

When in Dar Es Salaam, you can not miss visiting the charming and bustling Karikoo Market. It is Dar’s largest and most fun market which tops the list of top-attractions in Dar Es Salaam. Since the market remains open all week long, there would be no chance to miss the fun it generally has on its streets. When staying in Dar Es Salaam - other than a private hotel or lodge - this is the place that will fulfill your everyday desire. From fruits to veggies, eggs to grains, spices to clothes, fishes to the hardware - the market has almost everything you might need during your stay in Tanzania. If on a Tanzania safari vacation, this would be the perfect place to start the safari as the streets will give you some leisure time to spend with your family or partner.

Day 2: Cruise Across Bay

A great way of exploring the top attractions of the city is by catching a ferry across the Bay. Choosing water over roads to explore the city of Dar Es Salaam is a wonderful idea that will not only escape you from the road traffic but also allows you to soak your eyes with the incredible views of the city from the water. Board a ferry and cruise to have a wonderful time with your family. Sitting on the deck and watching silently first the city and then the people downstairs would definitely be a delightful experience.

Day 3: Visit the Fish Market

After cruising, next comes the engaging and bustling fish market which is situated right by the ferry terminal. Including the fish market is a must in your Dar Es Salaam Tanzania Safari itinerary and it is due to the rich and genuine cultural experience that this place offers. In a bid to get the most out of your trip to the market, it would be best to visit it in the early morning. This is the time when the whole market is full in action and hence gives an array of things to witness.

As per its name, the entire market would be full of fishes and the people who deal with it. Everything in the market relates directly or indirectly to the fishes. You will find people buying or selling fishes. There are separate sections to serve mouth-watering fish dishes which you must enjoy in the lunch. The whole market will give you a sensory experience which is both delightful and memorable at the same time.

Day 4: Camp at Mikardi Beach

The famous Mirkardi Beach of Dar Es Salaam is located on the south side of the river. This is the place where locals plan a beach party at the weekend. Being a traveler, you can camp at the beach for fun and leisure. The only thing which is free on the beach is to join the locals who are super friendly to talk to. Else, to bump into the nearby bar counter, you will have to lose your pocket a bit. This big bustling port is an ideal place for honeymoon couples and water persons.

Day 5: Coco Beach

Another beach that lands into your Tanzania Safari Vacation itinerary is the Coco beach. Located at the opposite end of the city to Mikardi Beach, Coco Beach is often called as the posher end of town. The embassy buildings and large expat homes make this place an exciting place to stroll around. Like Mikardi beach, Coco beach witnesses hundreds of visitors on its sand of which many are locals and a few are travelers. Things to do at the beach are dining, enjoying drinks at the bar, strolling, and people watching.

Day 6: Bongoyo Island

Out of the many things to do in Dar Es Salaam - swimming in the beautiful warm tropical Indian Ocean is one. However, the island is not exactly located in Dar Es Salaam but a few Kms away from it. Well, if there is something which is beautiful but lies a few kms away from your travel destination, you won’t mind crossing the boundaries, right?

Bongoyo Island is a small island located off the coast of Dar Es Salaam. The island is a perfect place for any one-day tour based on a beach-minded plan. You can stroll the beach or simply enjoy sitting at one of its corners. Snorkeling and dining on freshly fried fishes are a few more things you can have your mind on.

Day 7: South Beach – Kigamboni

After spending almost a week in Dar Es Salaam and visiting almost every corner of the city, if the next thing your traveler mind is looking for is peace and seclusion - take a turn to the South Beach of Kigamboni. There is an array of hotels you can consider for staying for a day. And, if you are a solo traveler and can skip the luxury and comfort of a hotel room for a day, go for the personal banda thatch-covered hut.

The beach is full of lanky palm trees that rustle in the breeze to produce the rhythmic sound of passing waves. Spending a day at the beach is one of the exciting yet relaxing things you will do in Dar Es Salaam. You can reach there either via a personal vehicle or by a local dala dala minivan. However, to cross to the Kigamboni side of Dar, you will have to board a ferry which actually doubles the excitement. Reaching the port of Kingamboni through an awesome ferry ride is an awe-inspiring experience.

Day 8: Departure

Your 8 days Tour in Tanzania is finally completing and today you will be saying Cheerios to the scenic beauty of this place. With lots of special memories in your heart, you will transfer to the airport for a happy return. Do not miss to enjoy your farewell breakfast in the hotel before the exit formalities. You will love the sweet gesture shown by the hotel staff.
