Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kotor

This spectacular city, Kotor is truly breathtaking in simplest of words! It wouldn’t be wrong to call this enlivening beauty the centrepiece of Montenegro. It's a lively town set in the shadow of the striking Mount Lovcen and is a seaside spot filled with narrow streets and hidden corners. One of the most famous travel destinations along the whole of Adriatic Coast, Kotor is truly a worth-visiting place to visit. If you can scale the 1,350 steps to the top of the fortifications, then get ready for an outstandingly fabulous treat.

Day 2: Budva

Budva once used to be a small and quaint coastal town. Today, it is a metropolis of Montenegro tourism and is one of the most dazzling towns in the country during the summers. Luxurious yachts, lovely restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and new buildings are where the amazing fun of Budva awaits. The city has its own Hawaii - an island situated opposite the city having gorgeous beaches, seafood specialties and ice cold refreshments.

On the promenade along the beach, get overwhelmed by the loud music emerging from the cafes, the screams and laughter of children from the nearby amusement parks, light beams coming from the disco, and the aroma of the sea combined with that of the mouth-watering barbeque. Budva in itself is a huge light show!

Day 3: Tara Canyon & River

Commonly known as the “Jewel of Europe”, Tara river is one of the most beautiful and clearest European rivers flowing between the mountains, Sinjajevina, Bjelasnica, Durmitor, and Ljubisnja. The Tara canyon which is fortified as UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the world’s second longest after Grand Canyon. Having turquoise color and crystal clear waters, the river is the biggest supply of drinking water in Europe. Tara cascades is the remarkable example. These are pebbly and rocky terraces that are surrounded with sandy beaches, thick pine forests, steep sides, and high cliffs. For all nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts, this one is an absolutely perfect spot.

The river is famous for water sports such as kayaking, rafting, and fishing. There are also other sports available such as hiking the steep mountains and mountain biking. Crna Poda forest and Bajlovica Sige waterfall are the most gorgeous natural highlights of the canyon. The symbol of the river, Durdevica bridge is Europe’s highest bridge and displays an incredible panoramic view of the canyon and its surroundings.

Day 4: Tivat and Porto Montenegro

One of the most spectacular marine regions, Porto Montenegro is located in the Bay of Kotor. This state of the art marina was formed on the foundations of the old Yugoslav naval facility. There are more than 600 berths for yachts as well as super yachts.

A walk through Porto Montenegro is definitely going to be an incredible experience for you. The coastal community that has formed around the area makes for an amazing getaway. Fabulous restaurants, hotels, amazing shopping, and plenty of water sports.

Day 5: Skadar Lake

One of the most gorgeous places to visit in the country, Skadar Lake can be seen from above by embarking on an amazing road trip around it. Although, Going on the lake by boat or kayak is still the best way to experience its beauty.

Begin your voyage in the village of Virpazar. Embark on one of the reed boats and go out on the beautiful lake. You’ll be able to witness a variety of birds and plants and will be surrounded by beautiful waterlilies. If luck chooses to favor you, you can also get to see the pelicans that reside in the lake!

Day 6: Stari Bar

Stari Bar, which is one of the most significant old towns in the country, is located about 5 km from the modern city of Bar. Dating back to 300BC and surrounded beautifully by olive groves, it is worth a visit. By the 9th Century, Stari Bar was referred to as Antivar and used to be a famous trading post.

Due to an earthquake in the year 1979, Stari Bar is majorly in ruins now. However, there are few signs that it is being rehabilitated with the city walls, Citadel, the Venetian Clock Tower and Turkish Baths. Still one gets its original feel as you stroll around the persisting streets and soak it all in. In order to gain an understanding of the place, make sure to visit the museum which is just inside the gates.

Discover the oldest olive tree in Europe just nearby you, which is known as Stara Maslina and is located in Mirovica. The tree which date between 2007 and is 2443 years old, still produces olives. It is definitely worth a look. For centuries, the tree has been used as a meeting place and a place of many marriage discussions as well as ending of arguments. Perhaps, this is where the phrase ‘extending the olive branch’ originates from.
