Day 2 - Fly to Ushuaia
This morning, your guide will transfer you to the airport for a flight to Ushuaia. With its origins as a missionary outpost and, consequently, a prison town, Ushuaia is today best known as the "Gateway to Antarctica." The Beagle Channel and rugged glacial peaks flank the city, making it ideal for hikers. This afternoon, you will wander along the scenic trails and explore the local museums.
Day 3 - Martillo Island & Estancia Harberton
This morning, reach the tourist dock to sail along the Beagle Channel. Spot the Sea Lions, Sea Birds Island, and the mysterious Les claireurs Island. Around noon, arrive in Estancia Harberton to board a small semi-rigid boat for a 15-minute sail toward Isla Martillo.
Once on the island, enjoy an hour of guided hike, grasping the nesting grounds and traits of Magellanic & Gentoos penguins who return here every year. After the hike, return to the Estancia for lunch. Later, visit the Acatushun Museum, which highlights the exhibitions of local marine and bird life. A private vehicle takes you back to Ushuaia for a delicious dinner.
Day 4 - Trek & Paddle in Tierra del Fuego National Park
Tour the Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego, Argentinas first coastal national park, in the north of Ushuaia. Hike through the natural spectacles of high & low deciduous beech, evergreen beech, winter bark, wire brush, and more. Rise into double kayaks, and sail to isolated beaches, and majestic locations, like the ancient Yamana tribes. Gaze at the pristine waters of Laguna Verde. Exit Pataia Bay, where you may spot petrels, albatross, steamer ducks, and on occasion, penguins. You will return to Ushuaia in the late afternoon.
Day 5 - Fly to El Calafate | Private Transfer to El Chalten
Take a morning flight with your guide to the exciting city of El Calafate. Embark on a 4-hour drive across the rugged landscape toward Chalten. En route, check out the spectacular peaks, lakes, and winding rivers. In the evening, your guide will lead you to your luxurious hotel in El Chalten.
Day 6 - Patagonia Trekking | Laguna de Los Tres
Gear up for breathtaking hikes, starting with a trail through an ancient, subantarctic beech forest to the Piedras Blancas Glacier. Your route goes parallel with the Rio Blanco until you reach the toughest part, a fifty-minute climb that zigzags up a 45 slope. The scenic encounter with the eerily still glacial Laguna de Los Tres will reward your efforts. Enjoy your lunch viewing the steepness of Mount Fitz Roy. Proceed to your campsite at Poincenot.
Day 7 - Patagonia Trekking | Laguna Torres
After breakfast, you will hike to Camp Torre and pass two lagoons suitably named Madre and Hija (Mother and Daughter). Go through a living natural history lesson on glacials, learning about the past that shaped this marvelous landscape. Be on the lookout for Andean Condors, Magellanic woodpeckers, and other Patagonian wildlife along the way. Continue the 4-hour intriguing hike, after which you head back to camp.
Day 8 - Return to El Chalten
After breakfast, begin hiking through the dense southern forest to the De las Vueltas River Valley. Behold the vistas of heavenly mountains on either side of the river. Return to El Chalten and enjoy the views of this quaint mountain village.
Day 9 - Trekking Free Day | Return to El Calafate
Today, take a map and feel free to hike on your own. You may opt for Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, a rewarding hike with excellent vantage points to view the accentuating marvels like Lake Capri, Torre Glacier, Mount Fitz, Mount Huemul, and Lago Viedma. Return to El Chalten area. Head to El Calafate in the evening.
Day 10 - Perito Moreno Glacier Walk
Today, your guide will drive you to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares to delight in the beautiful Perito Moreno Glacier. The advancing glacier is more than 3 miles wide at its front and over 20 stories high.
Take a boat across Lago Argentino and pass the massive front wall of blue ice, keeping an eye out for icebergs. Arrive at a small beach and start traversing the forest to the icepack of the glacier. Take pleasure in walking with crampons on the glacier. You will have your lunch on the glacier's lateral moraine. Admire the glacial anatomy and give ears to the cracking ice falling into the below lake.
