Continue by going to the equally moving Solar Boat Museum. Return to your hotel in the afternoon for lunch and some downtime as you wait for the heat of the day to pass. Visit Saqqara, the first of the pyramids, for a glimpse at the iconic structure that altered human history. Discover the ruins of Ancient Memphis in the areaanother enduring reminder of the past that still has life in it.

Day 3: Luxor Where the Sun Rises: Exploring the Fabled Temples of the East Bank

Discover the contrasting stories of ancient Thebes, told through the ancient ruins that are scattered in and around Luxor. Fly to Luxor and begin your journey on the East Bank, where the magnificent temples of Luxor and Karnak showcase the dramatic scale of Thebes. Along with your exploration, a forest of giant pillars will rise high above you in the Hypostyle Hall. As your guide interprets the twisting hieroglyphics, take note of the carved sphinxes that flank an old road and the numerous carvings that honor the gods. Transfer to a posh boat that is docked on the River Nile. Large windows in your exquisite apartment will provide you with unobstructed views of the lake. On the upper deck, a pool and tables are waiting for you to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Enjoy the first of four nights aboard the ship by unwinding and treating yourself.

Day 4: Edfu to Kom Ombo Mysterious Temples and the Serenity of a Luxury Nile Cruise

Disembark in the morning and ride in a carriage to the Temple of Edfu. It is only one of the magnificent views that line the Nile and provides information about mythology and god representations. While Kom Ombo honors the crocodile god and has mummified crocodiles near the entryway, Edfu is devoted to the horse god. Your guide will expertly interpret the wonders of the temples as you visit them in small groups. Enjoy the peace of the voyage as you pass the temples. The cruise will offer a couple of extremely peaceful days between some in-depth historical exploration on this traditional route. While you stop at mesmerizing sites, the cruise will also be an excellent opportunity to relax and escape into a remote world.

Day 5: Aswan Cruising Into the Oasis and the Sights of Aswan

As the Sahara awakens for a new day, open the curtains to see the sun rise over the desert and eat breakfast on the roof. As you cruise into the alluring oasis town of Aswan, take in the magnificent expanses of green that are beginning to sprout on the banks and sit outside. Aswan has long been a tourist destination and a Saharan outpost for camel caravans. In the marketplace, where traders gather in cafes, and there is always time for another cup of tea, discover a traditional nomadic environment. Learn about Aswan's famous landmarks, including the High Dam from the 20th century and a temple from three millennia earlier. Spend the night on board, soak up the entertainment and notice the clusters of palm trees that rise on the banks.

Day 6: Abu Simbel to Cairo A Final Legendary Site and a Last Night On the Nile

Ancient Egyptian engineering marvels benefited from their in-depth understanding of the solstice and their deep belief in the afterlife. In the very south of Egypt, two enormous temples known as Abu Simbel stand, each one surrounded by a massive Ramesses II sculpture. Notice how godly scenes play out. Afterward, fly to Cairo via Aswan. For this final night, get a taste of modern Egypt with a decadent suite that provides views over the city lights.
