Day 1: Arrival in Shanghai
Today you begin your China journey by boarding your international flight to Shanghai.
Upon arrival, you will be met by your private guide at the airport and taken to your hotel. As an alternative, you may wish to board a ride on the super-fast Maglev train into the city and then continue by private transfer to your hotel. The remaining of the day is at leisure to acclimatize and relax.
Day 2: Shanghai Exploration
In the morning, you will explore the lively city of Shanghai. The private cycling tour takes you through the French Concession, with its aesthetic Art Deco villas, before you plunge into the backstreets and alleyways of isolated residential areas and the maze of narrow streets that make up Shanghai’s old town to witness the daily life of local people. Later in the afternoon explore Shanghai independently at leisure. Visiting the Jade Buddha temple is highly suggested, which is one of the few working monasteries in the city, as well as the colonial waterfront of the Bund, where you can look across at the advanced skyscrapers of the Pudong district. Fuxing Park is also an amazing place to meander around, as are the Yu Gardens. You may also wish to visit the fascinating Propaganda Poster Art Centre.
Day 3: Venturing to Huang Shan
Today, you will be transferred to the railway station to catch your bullet train to Huang Shan in Anhui province. The journey takes approximately 4.5 hours. On reaching, you will be met by your private guide and transferred to your hotel. The remaining of the day is free for you to explore Tunxi Ancient Street on your own. Dating back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279AD), the street is dotted with Chinese traditional medicine pharmacies and shops, that sell curios and knick-knacks. There are also two fascinating museums, Tunxi Museum, and Wan Cui Lou, with exhibitions of Ming and Qing furniture, paintings and calligraphy, ceramic, as well as other cultural relics.
Day 4: A Private Tour of Huang Shan
Leave Huang Shan this morning accompanied by your private guide. Huang Shan, which is listed as a UNESCO Heritage Site, is one of China’s sacred mountains and a famous subject in traditional Chinese paintings and literature. Your guide will take you on the cable car up to the top of Huang Shan where you will enjoy an overnight stay in simple accommodation. Later in the afternoon, you will discover the wealth of magnificent views on clear days or seas of mist and cloud, which imparts a mysterious feel to the mountain on other days, along covered walking trails at the top of the mountain accompanied by your guide. You may get an opportunity to view the sunset at the summit if the weather permits.
Day 5: One Day Tour of Hangzhou
This morning, you will depart for Huang Shan North railway station to board the high-speed train to the city of Hangzhou. The journey takes approximately 3 hours. On reaching, you will meet your private guide and taken to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of Hu Xueyan’s former residence. A wealthy Hangzhou businessman during the Qing dynasty, Hu Xueyan constructed this residence from mahogany brought from Southeast Asia and a classical garden that rivals any in Suzhou. Continue your journey to Hu Qing Yu Tang traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy which was founded by Hu Xueyan in 1874. Observe how the staff handles the herbs and ingredients and you’ll witness locals waiting while their own packets are prepared. The museum attached offers further useful insight into its origins and theories. In the evening, you may wish to witness the Impression West Lake show; an extravaganza of lights, music, dance, and theatrics.
Day 6: Heading to Zhangjiajie
Today, you’ll visit the West Lake. Considered one of the most gorgeous sights in Hangzhou, this picturesque lake is sheltered on three sides by hills. Its many beautiful pavilions and bridges, built in memory of popular Chinese poets and emperors, offer a pretty placid setting. Take a short stroll along the Su Causeway before you enjoy a leisurely cruise on the lake. After the excursion, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Zhangjiajie. On reaching, you will be met by your private guide and taken to your hotel.
Day 7: Exploring Zhangjiajie
This morning, you will start your exploration of Zhangjiajie, well-known for its unpredictable peaks, dense forests, streams, and huge karst caves. Wander along the world’s longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge that provides stunning views of the Grand Canyon below. Afterward, embark on a picturesque 2-hour walk downstairs formed into a thin crevasse in the canyon wall to the Grand Canyon before you board a boat ride to the exit. Later in the afternoon, visit Baofeng Lake. 'The Abode of Immortals in the World', Baofeng Lake is a picturesque area located just outside of the national park. The water here is caught between a number of large pinnacles, all of which have been given creative names. Embark on a short boat ride on the lake and your guide will narrate the origins of the names of some of these rock formations.
Day 8: Visiting Guangzhou
Today, you’ll make your way to Tianmenshan (Heaven’s Gate Mountain) accompanied by your private guide. The limestone karst mountain of Tianmenshan appear huge over Zhangjiajie City and can be reached by perhaps the most stunning cable car journey in China. Embark on a 30-minute ride to the top of the mountain, crossing over a number of sceneries from the rooftops of the city to the picturesque patchwork of rice and rapeseed terraces as well as the slopes of Tianmenshan. At the top, there is a viewing platform from where one can witness Zhangjiajie National Park on a clear day. After admiring the views, return back by cable car to the halfway point to board a minibus up to the huge arch known as Tianmen Cave. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Guangzhou. On reaching, a guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Exploration and overnight stay in Guangzhou.
Day 9: Departure Back Home
Today you will be transferred to the airport by your private guide for your return flight.
