DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Bhutan

This is your first day of the Bhutan Vacation Plan! You will arrive at the airport and will drive to Thimphu and will be checking-in your luxury hotel room. Today you will be relaxing and have all the time to explore the area around your hotel and more. You can spend some time with the locals to get acquainted with people here.

 

Day 2: Punakha

This is the second day of your Bhutan Vacation Plan! It will take your vehicle around one hour 30 minutes to climb to the upper portion of the hills. And, if you are lucky enough, and the weather is clear you will get to see the perfectly beautiful panorama of the Himalayas of Bhutan. And, there’s one wonderful stupa that has one big and 107 small chortens. One of the most overwhelming traditions of Bhutan is the prayer flags, that are believed to be the symbols of prosperity, happiness, and long life. It’s great to see them all floundering around the city. Next to see with this Day-by-Day Bhutan Itinerary is Punakha Dzong, which is a 1637 built edifice, the most stunning building of the country.

 

Day 3: Phobjikha Valley

An Excursion through the Phobjikha Valley! It’s a gigantic glacial valley forming a U-shape. This is your third day in Bhutan, and you will need to start off a little earlier because it will be taking around two and a half hours to drive to the Phobjikha Valley. You will be starting it off from the Gangtey monastery. Of all the four key Tibetan Buddhism schools, this one is the oldest one. You will see here, a large painting of Hayagriva, at the entrance. Hayagriva is a horse-headed deity belonging to both Hinduism and Buddhism. And, you can also see here, the Black Necked Crane, one of the rarest birds, if yours is a winter Bhutan vacation plan.

 

Day 4: Thimphu

You are going to spend your fourth day in Thimpu, the capital city of Bhutan! It’s at a distance of around 135 km from Phobjikha. Once you reach here and settle in your hotel room, you could start off by wandering around visiting through the handicraft emporiums. And, you may also try your hands at souvenir shopping. Then, in the evening, you can head towards the Tashichho Dzong, which is the Government department’s hub. This edifice was rebuilt in 1961-62, and the key focus of this place is the two-story statue of Buddha depicting its 12 stages. There’s also this column of Kanju and Tenju, the scripts of Buddha.

 

Day 5: Sightseeing in Thimphu

There are too many tourist attractions of Bhutan located in Thimphu! It’s a great idea to start it off from the School of Arts and Craft. In the vicinity of it is the Folk Heritage Museum, which is a cornucopia of antiques. After that, it’s time to move towards the National Library, which houses a collection of photographs, records, and letters. You can also find here goo collection of manuscripts and books most of which are sacred ones. After this, there’s the ‘mini zoo’ waiting to be explored. Takins are preserved here in great numbers. These are the national animals of Bhutan. There’s also a hand-made paper manufacturing factory to be explored.

 

Day 6: Paro Sightseeing

You will have to drive for an hour to reach to Paro from Thimphu! You can wander around a little after checking in your luxurious hotel room. And, after that, you can embark on your journey towards Bhutan’s National Museum, which is a Dzong and a watchtower, built in the year 1641. It’s the perfect place to see the beautiful collection of artifacts and arts here. After that, there’s Drugyel Dzong, another historically important fortress waiting to be explored.

 

Day 7: Paro Tiger’s Nest Hike

After you are done with your breakfast and everything you will be driving upwards! It will take around five hours to complete a round trip. About 800 meters above the Paro valley, is the stunning Taktsang monastery. It is also known as the ‘tiger’s nest and is considered as one of the most sought-after tourist attractions of Bhutan. You will enjoy a steady climb along the way. Also, there are horse-ride available for those who are not able to climb up the monastery on foot. A legend explains that Guru Padmasambhava, the great Tantric master, flew here all the way from Tibet to propagate his teachings.

 

Day 8: Last day in Bhutan

This is the last day of your Bhutan vacation plan! You will be departing from the airport for your journey back home.
