Day 1: Arrival in Cochin
Today you begin your Kerala journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Cochin.
On reaching Cochin Airport, you're met by your private guide who will stay with you for the rest of your trip. Depending on the arrival time of your flight, spend the remaining of your day at leisure. Meander along the waterfront to observe fishermen working the Chinese fishing nets, or just relax at your hotel room.
Day 2: Colonial Tour of Cochin
This morning, enjoy a private colonial tour of Cochin with your local guide. Usually, the tour lasts for around half a day and includes the Santa Cruz Basilica and St Francis Church. Your guide can customize the tour so as to suit your interests. The remainder of the day is yours entirely to explore this colonial fort on foot or simply enjoy your hotel.
Day 3: Traversing to Kodikulam
Today, you’ll be driven for around three hours into rural Kerala for a stay at a traditional homestay. The property is pleasant and welcoming and is surrounded by wonderful spice gardens and a gorgeous flowing river at the bottom of the garden, where you can even go swimming.
Day 4: A Day of Activities in Kodikulam
Spend your day today at your leisure. There are a number of activities you can choose from, just have a conversation with your hosts. Enjoy cycling around the nearby village, a spice plantation walk, visit a local school or temple, learn about the process of honey extraction and even try milking a cow.
Day 5: Heading to Munnar
This morning, you’ll head up to the Western Ghats. It is going to be a 3-hour drive to the town of Munnar. Look out for some spectacular waterfalls on your way up to the tea country. Upon arrival, relax and soak in the wonderful views, go birdwatching or on a butterfly walk. Your hotel can also arrange activities in case you wish.
Day 6: Trekking Adventure in Munnar
Spend today’s morning trekking through the gorgeous hills that surround Munnar. Your private trek is going to be with a local, experienced guide. In case you find the trek to be too difficult, then just ask your guide to take it at a slower pace and also to shorten it if need be.
Day 7: A Relaxing Day in Munnar
This morning, simply enjoy at your hotel, either tea tasting, partaking in local activity or simply relaxing with a cup of the local brew. Later in the afternoon, you’ll be driven the four-hour journey to Periyar National Park.
Day 8: One Day Tour of Alleppey
Get ready early this morning for a jungle walk accompanied by a local ranger in a small group tour. As the jungle wakes, you have the chance to potentially witness sambar deer, black monkeys, giant squirrels, and even wild boar. The birdlife is quite impressive too. Your walk will last around 3 hours - just don't forget your camera, comfy shoes and insect repellent. After lunch, traverse for around three to four hours to the Keralan Backwaters. Embark on your traditional private rice barge and spend the afternoon and evening just relaxing as you float around the waterways.
Day 9: Exploring Backwaters
This morning, you’ll wake up on your houseboat and enjoy delicious breakfast before disembarking. Your guide is on hand to meet you and take you the brief distance to the homestay to spend this evening. Your amiable hosts will encourage you to either explore locally with them or possibly partake in a cookery experience.
Day 10: Visiting Marari Beach
Today, you’ll be transferred just along the coast by a private driver to the scenic Marari Beach to spend your final two nights. Take a walk along the beach or relax under a palm tree.
Day 11: More Fun Time in Marari Beach
Enjoy a full day today at leisure. You might like to sample an Ayurvedic massage or hire a bicycle to explore the surrounding peaceful lanes.
Day 12: Departure Back Home
Your guide will take you back to Cochin today for your onward flight black home. The drive will take around 90 minutes and so will be arranged depending on your flight time.
