Day 1: Arrival in Delhi
Today you begin your India journey by boarding your international flight to Delhi.
Upon arrival, you'll meet your private guide who will stay with you during your entire trip. You will be transferred to your hotel where the remaining of your afternoon is at leisure. You might like to take a stroll from your hotel to the close by shops and markets. Your guide can suggest you somewhere interesting for dinner - you will find a number of local specialty restaurants.
Day 2: Traversing to Shimla
This morning, you’ll be driven to the train station for your onward journey into the hills. Firstly, board the train which travels north to Kalka, taking 4 hours. At noon, you'll reach Kalka and be met by your guide to assist you to connect with the famous 'toy train'. The guide will accompany you on the toy train which makes its way for 5 hours through 107 tunnels and a number of mountains to reach Shimla. It's a long journey but the views can be gorgeous on a clear day. On reaching the station, your guide will drive you to your hotel for the evening.
Day 3: Shimla Exploration
Today, get ready for a guided walk around Shimla which includes a visit to Christ Church located on the pedestrianized Mall Road. The Viceregal Lodge is also crucial in British history and is interesting to look around. In the afternoon, relax for sometime and then meander at your own pace or make your way to Wildflower Hall to visit the gardens and relish a cup of tea.
Day 4: One Day Tour of Pragpur
Situated at an altitude of around 1800 ft above sea level, Pragpur in the district of Kangra, is one of the eminent tourist destinations of Himachal Pradesh. In 1997, the place was declared as a Heritage Village by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
This morning, you’ll be driven 5 hours to Pragpur continuing your journey north. On your way, witness the snow-capped Himalaya. One can easily explore Pragpur on foot by themselves - it's a tiny village, but an amazing way to see rural life in the Himalayan foothills.
Day 5: Heading to Dharamshala
Today, you’ll continue further north, traveling 2 hours higher in altitude up to Dharamshala and McLeodganj, home to the Dalai Lama. This beautiful hill town is home to a vast Tibetan community which makes it feel like an entirely different country. With the remaining of the day free, you can explore some of the local shops near your hotel which sell a range of Tibetan products.
Day 6: Exploring Dharamshala
Head out to the Norbulingka Institute today with your guide. Here Tibetian skills and ways of life are preserved. Watching some of the craftsmen working is going to be fascinating. Visit the Buddhist Monastery later and also the Mountaineering Institute.
Day 7: Traveling to Amritsar
Today, you’ll travel west for 7 hours to Amritsar, situated in the heart of Punjab. Your local guide will accompany you to the Wagah Border, which lies 45 minutes away from the city on the Pakistan border, to witness the border closing ceremony. It's an extravagant affair which occurs every day.
Day 8: Private Tour of Amritsar
Visit the magnificent Sikh Golden Temple along with pilgrims and families from all over India on a private tour today. Witness the astounding kitchens which prepare thousands of meals every day for free. After dinner and some time to relax, make your way back to the temple accompanied by your local guide to witness the putting to bed ceremony of the holy book.
Day 9: Visiting Haridwar
In a literal sense, Haridwar means Gateway to God. It is really kaleidoscoped to the culture of India and is one of the most well-known holy cities in India. Haridwar is widely visited by Hindus across the globe. Hindus from all around the globe try to visit Haridwar once in their lifetime. For Hindus, visiting Haridwar implies washing their sins. For some people, it is part of their holy rituals. Throughout the year, groups of pilgrims come here for a spiritual tour in Haridwar.
Board the train to Haridwar today. The long journey is going to take 7 hours but passes through some splendid scenery. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your guide who know the stations well. You’ll find porters available at all stations to help you with luggage in case you need. After checking in, your guide will take you around the buzzing city of Haridwar. As the sun sets, make your way to the river ghats to be a part of the lively atmospheric aarti ceremony.
Day 10: A Peaceful Day in Haridwar
This morning, take your time to relax and soak up the Ganges views from the terrace of the hotel or wander off to explore further. In the afternoon, enjoy a private guided tour of Rishikesh to explore its ashrams, temples, and surroundings before the aarti ceremony. An hour's drive away, you'll witness contrasts between the Haridwar ceremony, about which your guide can explain you.
Day 11: Returning Back to Delhi
Catch the train back to Delhi today which is going to take approximately 5 hours. As per your preference, there is a 6:00 am train or a 6:00 pm train. On reaching back in Delhi, you’ll be driven back to your hotel which is situated just near the airport and is ideal for your homeward journey tomorrow.
Day 12: Departure Back Home
Today morning, after breakfast, you'll be driven to the airport by your private guide to catch your onward flight from Delhi Airport.
