DETAILED ITINERARY

Start Your 9-Day Uganda Safari Tour

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali Airport to start your 9-Day Uganda Safari Tour  

On the first day of the safari tour, you will be picked from Kigali International Airport in Kigali to start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Genocide museum and Kigali city tour. This entirely depends on the time of your arrival flight, if you have arrived in the morning, then there are high chances of you started with your Uganda Safari Tour from the very first day of the tour. This safari tour will take you through a thousand hills to the Pearl of Africa. So once your flight lands in the city, go straight to your hotel to take some rest. After check-in, you can proceed to the dining area where you will be served with a good morning meal that will be provided by the hotel staff. When you are done with your breakfast, you can leave the hotel and cross over to Uganda at Katuna for a stop at Kabale town (Katuna) or Kisoro (Chanika) before you proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for overnight.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

This is the second day of safari tour in which you will be heading to the park headquarters to join other tourists. Wake up early in the morning to grab a bite at the lodge before you head to the park headquarters for a briefing about “Dos and Don’ts” while mountain gorillas trekking. After a brief, you will start your trek into the forest guided by researchers and guides. During your trek, you may encounter many birds, other animals and primates in the forest and once you have found the gorillas you will spend four hours with them and return back to the Lodge for an overnight stay. After lodging, you will get an opportunity to listen and observer researchers who are doing their work of habituated gorillas. So this is how you can wrap your the second day of Uganda safari tour.

Day 3: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

A third of the tour will be quite exciting as it is reserved to have a drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. After your morning meal, you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park located in western Uganda and you will be arriving in time for Lunch at Elephant Hab Lodge. This will offer you a short relaxation and an evening game drive in the savannah plains of Kasenyi where you will get to see wild animals like buffaloes, elephants, antelopes and big wild cats such as lions and leopards depending on your luck or the time you visit the place. In the evening, return to your lodge for an overnight stay and hit your bed after trying the traditional dishes in your dinner.

Day 4: Morning Game drive activity and boat cruise on Kazinga Channel

Wake up early in the morning as you will head back to the plains of Kasenyi for a morning game drive to try to find out what have you missed in the previous day. The game drive is a quintessential safari activity that is enjoyed in the morning. So after having your breakfast, go out to enjoy this adventure game drive that entails viewing wildlife in the comfort of open Land Rover. This game drive will take your first half of the day and in the second half, you will head to the lodge for lunch. The lunch will be served at the lodge and after having your lunch you will be heading to the jetty along Kazinga channel for the afternoon boat cruise. This boat cruise gives you an opportunity to see animals such as hippos, water birds, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles and other wildlife which flock the channel for drinking water.

Day 5: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park

On the fifth day, after having your breakfast, drive to the northern bank of Queen Elizabeth National Park (Kasenyi) area in search of the wild animals which include Elephants, Buffalos, and the wild cats, Savanna birds and different species of antelopes such water buck Uganda kobs among others. This will take half of your day and you will be coming back to your lodge in the lunchtime. This is how you will end the fifth day of adventure Uganda safari tour.

Day 6: Chimp Trekking

This sixth day of the tour is reserved for Chimp trekking. After your morning meal, you will be transferred to Kibale National Park headquarters at Kanyakyu to join other trekkers for the briefing. This tour will be led by a well-trained guide who will take you on a guided primate walk inside Kibale Forest National Park. After entering this forest, you will get a full-fledged opportunity to visit one of the habituated communities of chimpanzees. You can spend an hour with them and don’t forget to capture these precious moments in your camera. After spending hours here, leave for Kibale National Park, which is home to other 11 primate species coupled with forest birds. After your chimpanzee trek, you will drive to Bigodi Village for a wetland walk that was designed to benefit the local community living around Kibale Forest National Park. In the evening, return to the Lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Depart Kibale Forest National Park for Lake Bunyonyi

The seventh day is perfect for driving from Kibale Forest National Park to Lake Bunyonyi. This drive will be a little long and tiring so to break the long journey to Kigali, you can relax in the lodge. But if you are comfortable for a long drive, there is no need to stop by in the middle of the drive, you can drive straight to the Lake Bunyonyi. It is one of the three Lava damned Lake which was formed when lava flowing from one of the volcanoes blocked a river channel. The flow of water was forced to flow back which creates the space to form the Lake Bunyonyi. The name of the Lake actually means small birds due to the fact of the abundance of small birds in this area. It is one of the deepest lakes in Uganda and the second deepest in East Africa. Most of the tourists visit Lake Bunyonyi for its beauty and also to relax after a long safari.

Day 8: Optional Canoeing or Hiking activities and depart to Rwanda to End the trip

The last day of the Uganda safari tour which calls to admire the beauty of the lake and its surrounding hills. After having your breakfast, leave early in the morning to take a canoe ride on the lake to explore the different island with an exciting history. It is worth visiting the Punishment Island on the last day of the Uganda safari tour. This island is famous for the girls who produce babies out of legitimate tradition marriage and left on this island. This activity will take your whole day and you will surely enjoy it. Afterward, you can hike one of the hills around Lake Bunyonyi, if time permits. When you have enjoyed the day here, drive to Katuna Border and head for Kigali to catch a late flight to your home.
