5 Awesome iPhone Travel Apps You Already Have

When preparing for a big trip, it’s only natural to take the steps to arm yourself with the tools that you might need in your travels. Back in the day, that would mean buying a map, a Swiss army knife, a compass, and other widgets. However, thanks to the dawn of smartphones and other technology, travelers who need to prepare for their trip can often find what they need simply by downloading the right apps. Sound familiar? If this is you, and you’re already scouring for some fancy new travel apps, we’d like to encourage you to take a moment and revisit the ones that you already have on your phone. If you have an iPhone, spend some time poking around its native interface and you might find that some of the nifty travel apps you need are already at your fingertips. You were just too close to them to really notice what they can do. So what apps are we talking about? Check these out -

Clock

Going abroad and need to keep track of several time zones? You don’t need to head to the app store to get a world clock app, you already have one built into your phone. In case you missed the feature, the iPhone lets you add clocks from different parts of the world. When you launch the app, simply tap on the plus sign in the upper right corner of the screen, enter the city that you want to add, and that’s it. You can add multiple cities and the iPhone displays them next to each other so you’ll be able to see various time zones with one glance.

Weather

Keeping track of the weather is a must when you’re traveling. You want to be prepared for the right outfit and accessories when you’re touring. Fortunately, the iPhone has a wonderful weather app that displays the weather in multiple locations. It even provides a seven-day forecast so you can prepare in advance. To add a new city, simply click on the list icon at the bottom right part of the screen. You should see a small plus sign at the bottom right of the next screen. Tap that, enter the city, zip code, or airport, and the app will then give you the weather forecast for your selected location.

Compass

Another essential tool for any traveler, a compass tells you which direction is north and it helps you read maps and navigate an area more effectively. If you’re an iPhone user, then you’ll be pleased to know that your device already has a built-in compass. The app even displays your exact coordinates, giving you more insights on your location.

iMessage

Need to communicate with your loved ones abroad? Well, if they’re using Apple devices (iPad, Mac, etc), you can skip the international SMS rates or roaming charges. Simply connect with them via iMessage and you’ll be able to keep in touch with no problem. All you need is access to a reliable internet connection.

FaceTime

The same thing goes for video calls. If you want to be face to face with your loved ones abroad, just run Apple’s FaceTime feature and you’ll be able to see and talk to each other using your iDevices.
