The Seattle Great Wheel is a behemoth Ferris wheel, which features as the star attraction of Seattle’s waterfront precinct. Standing at a height of 175 feet, the wheel is one of the tallest structures in the entire United States. It stands at Pier 57 on Elliott Bay in Seattle, Washington and opened on June 29, 2012. It provides an inimitable and spectacular view of the whole Seattle with Puget Sound near the Pike Place Market and Seattle Aquarium. It is only the attraction one of its kind to be built over water.

Features

It is great fun with family, this 170,000 pound Ferris wheel offers a slow and smooth ride for children, men and women of all the age including pregnant women and babies. It carries 42 air-conditioned and enclosed gondolas and at a time it can accommodate 8 people in each gondola. While taking a ride on the wheel one can have a fantastic birds-eye view of the mountains, water and city and sound narrating the Seattle’s waterfront history. The wheel also includes one VIP gondola with glass floor for the ultimate and scenic viewing experience. It is a luxury gondola that features four leather-covered bucket seats along with a pulsating stereo system. This VIP gondola is available on prior booking. You can either purchase tickets and book the VIP gondola online or at the ticket counter on the pier. Cost of ticket is $50 per person along with a T-shirt and a champagne toast back at Fisherman’s Restaurant. Having a VIP pass gets you some special treatment as you don’t have to stand in a queue; rather, you are able to access the front of the line services and board the wheel first.

Hours of operations

The working hours are based on the season. Winter operation hours are from 11 am to 10 pm (from Monday to Thursday), 11 am to 12 am (Midnight) on Friday, 10 am to 12 am on the weekends. The ride time also varies with the crowd; therefore, the ride time is usually between 12 to 20 mins in summer as more visitors frequent the ride, and between 10 to 15 minutes in winter. You can purchase the tickets at the booth or online in advance to avoid last minute unavailability. However, the tickets for children between 0 to 2 yrs of age and senior citizen, aging more than 65 yrs, are available only at the ticket booth.

There are more than 30 hotels near Sea-Tac airport and 20 hotels close to Westfield South Center mall with plenty of free parking slots.
