The Blind Lemon Peel All-Stars is a Southern California-based band. Their current band roster includes lead singer Blind Lemon Peel (David Hale) who describes himself as an old bloke trapped in an even older white person’s body, bassist Ray Brundidge (James Brown), drummer Craig Kimbrough (Solomon Burke, Swamp Dogg, Jimmy McCracken, and Lowell Fulson), lead guitarist D.J. Ison and singer Alyssa Baron. Their signature sound is a musical mixture of funk and blues. They list some of their musical inspirations to be B.B. King, Albert King, Big Joe Turner, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Howlin’ Wolf. Their most recent release is their full-length studio disc titled Don’t Tear My Clothes.
In a recent email, the band discussed this upcoming event in detail. Hale stated, "The Pop-Up Blues Festival is to promote, feature, and give exposure to local artists. We had been offered to do a monthly third-Thursday at Harvelle's in Long Beach, which I didn't want to be just about [our band].” He concluded: "I saw it as an opportunity to really reach and focus on local musicians and give them the opportunity to play on that stage. That, to me, was my dream come true. When I mentioned it to my publicist, he said: ‘Why don't you position it as a pop-up blues festival? You can tweak it around and it can pop up in different places’."
This time the list of live performers will include the evening’ opening act Tony D and The Blues Bandits, vocalist Alyssa Barron performing as a solo act at 10:45 p.m. and the headliners and host band The Blind Lemon Peel Blues All-Stars take the stage at 11:30 p.m. In addition to these live performances, those attending will have access to a number of different arts and crafts vendors, music memorabilia and more.
