The Colosseum and the Arch of the Constantine is a must visit the site when you decide to visit Rome. The silhouette of the Flavian Amphitheatre or the Colosseum of the Constantine holds the same value to Rome as the Eiffel Tower to Paris. It is the largest of the structures left by the Roman antiquity. The Colosseum is still the inspiration to the modern day's sports arenas and the one designed based on this – the Oval Roman Plan. In its days of glory, the Colosseum used to hold large events such as theatrical performances, festivals, circuses, or games. The Arch of Constantine lies beside the Colosseum and is a site made in honor of the triumph. It was erected by the Senate to honor the emperor as "liberator of the city and bringer of peace" after the victory in the battle of the Milvian Bridge in 312 AD.
