Scuba Diving

Placed at the border with Israel, Taba is a popular tourist destination, mostly among locals and Israeli. It’s a good place to choose for a short weekend trip or a quick escape from city life. One of the activities you simply have to do while you’re around this area is to go scuba diving.  Seeing the underwater world is impressive and makes you realize how much we’re missing out on. A good company to book tours with is Red Sea Waterworld. They offer a large range of water activities in Taba.

Coloured Canyon

Coloured Canyon, in Sinai, is a must-see while in the area. This natural beauty makes you wonder how such interesting rock formations are possible. It’s a cool place for a hike and climbing the rocks is for sure good exercise. It does help if you get there early in the morning, as otherwise, the temperature might get too high for the hike to be enjoyable. Tours can be organized with most hotels in Taba.

Castle Zaman

Castle Zaman is a restaurant with a wonderful view over the Red Sea. They offer a wide range of dishes and, as is expected, most focus on seafood. It is suitable for both lunch and dinner, depending on the view you prefer. Even if you’re not planning to eat here, you can still enjoy a drink or two while checking out the calming waves of the sea.

The temperature of Egypt is generally high particularly during the summer months from May to August, when the sun can be very strong. If you're visiting Egypt during this time, take plenty of sunscreen. It's still fine to visit Egypt at these times of year and the heat is more dry than humid.  In Cairo and the Nile Delta region, winter (October to February) can be cooler, especially in the evenings and at night, so take a jacket, long-sleeved tops and trousers. The south remains warm during this time but again, temperatures do drop in the evenings. This is the best time to visit Egypt for sightseeing if you want to avoid the hot sun.Regarding weather, the best time to visit Egypt is from October to April, when temperatures are at their most pleasant. However, December and January constitute peak tourist season, and iconic sights like the Pyramids of Giza, the Temples of Luxor and Abu Simbel can get uncomfortably crowded. Also, rates at Red Sea resorts are at their most expensive.

Only a few minutes away from the beach, the Hotel Romance Alexandria offers panoramic sea views in all of its rooms. Dine well at the two gourmet restaurants available in the hotel. For instance, fine French cuisine can be enjoyed for dinner at the air-conditioned Le Clovis while local and international dishes are served at Mermaid coffee shop, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Rooms are beautifully decorated with carpet floors, wide floor-to-ceiling windows, and light neutral colors. Each room has satellite a TV and a minibar.  With a great location, the Sidi Gaber Railway Station, Rail Train Station, and Misr Station are all in walking distance. The elegant Saba Pasha district also encompasses the following landmarks: the Bibliotheca Alexandria, Graeco-Roman Museum of Alexandria and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa.

Movenpick is a hotel chain with a consistently world-class service. Its resort in Aswan is no different. Located on Elephantine Island in the middle of the River Nile, the resort is luxurious, aiming to pamper you to the very best. Equipped with countless services such as a swimming pool, tennis court, and a gymnasium, you can wind down and relax leisurely within the resort. Guests can also enjoy free WiFi in the whole property including the rooms.

When preparing for a trip to Egypt your first priority should be to make sure you make the small investment towards your health and well being by purchasing a flexible, reputable and affordable travel insurance policy for your trip. Not only will this travel insurance policy cover you if your bags are lost/stolen and if your flight is delayed/ canceled, but you’ll also be covered for all medical and injury related issues as well.

Bring your own toilet paper. Trust me on this one. You’ll be hard pressed to find toilet paper in most restrooms in Egypt. The toilets have a built-in bidet spray nozzle for those who forget to bring toilet paper along but who the heck wants to walk out of the bathroom with a wet behind? Not me. That’s for sure. I think it’s safe to assume you wouldn’t either. To avoid this sticky situation simply stop into a local shop and pick up a roll of TP and take enough to last you the day when you’re heading out to explore.

Generally speaking, traveling to Egypt is safe and Egyptians are very friendly and welcoming people. Locals here help in most cases as much as they can when any tourist needs assistance. Most trips into the deserts at Egypt have checkpoints where people inform you about your travel to the destination and ensure that you will safely reach your destination. Trips into any potentially insecure areas have an escort provided by local police. Also, officials here can conduct passport and document checks, to avoid any illegal person from trespassing andto ensure peace in the country.

The most common language spoken in Egypt is Egyptian Arabic. Some Egyptians can speak English, mainly the street traders, who are looking to earn a living off foreign tourists, and some of whom know French as well to appeal to even more foreigners.

Women’s rights in Egypt have taken a hit over the last few years; from the earliest archaeological records, it is thought that women were considered nearly equal. 2013 saw Egypt ranked as the worst country for women in the Arab World. Unfortunately, Egypt suffers from spates of sexual and verbal harassment. Fortunately, there is also a widespread desire to change this situation, and things look set to improve.

Football is hugely popular in Egypt; you can hear people talking about football wherever you go. When matches are being played it is not uncommon to see the streets littered with people.     Unlike in Western culture, responsibilities are not distributed among men and women equally. The man of the household traditionally has full responsibility to pay all of his family’s expenses. However, due to the complicated financial situation in Egypt, it is increasingly common to see women participate in paying the monthly bills.

Egypt follows the same sort of etiquette as most other Muslim countries. With customs such as bringing gifts when visiting somebody’s home, taking your shoes off before you enter the house, and using your right hand to eat and greet. Politics and religion can be touchy subjects, so it’s probably best not to bring them up, especially if you are not a religious person yourself.
