DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1-2: Exploring Oslo

Today you’ll arrive in Oslo and will head out to explore this amazing cosmopolitan capital city as you adjust to the time difference. Plan your stay in the city center, as nearby to the train station as possible. This area will make for a great base to explore the city on foot and to easily get to some of the sights just outside the center.

There are plenty of things to see during your two days in Oslo, so make sure to plan your itinerary wisely so as to include these must-see sights: Opera House, Karl Johans Gate, Vigeland Sculpture Park, The Viking Ship Museum, The National Gallery, the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, and the Nobel Peace Center.

If you are interested in purchasing some high-quality traditional souvenirs such as Viking drinking cups, national dresses, trolls, etc., then make a stop at the Den Norske Husfliden store situated in the basement of the GlasMagasinet Stortovet on the corner of Stortovet and Torrggata.

Day 3: Visiting Sognefjord

This morning, you will start your journey from Oslo to Bergen with a stop to witness and cruise on the largest and most visited fjord of Norway, the Sognefjord. Be prepared as it will be a long 12-hour trip. But fret not, you won’t even think about the time as you’ll be constantly distracted by the incredible scenery.

Day 4: Spending Time in Bergen

Bergen, with its fresh vibe and vibrant historical buildings, is going to be a nice retreat from the bustling city of Oslo. In just one day, you’ll have enough time to stroll along the historical wharf to witness the popular wooden houses, enjoy some lunch at the famous Fish Market, and shop for souvenirs if you missed doing it in Oslo.

Consider visiting the Dale of Norway Factory Outlet to buy a traditional Norwegian sweater and Museum in the small village of Dale which is just 45 minutes by train from Bergen. Here, learn about the history of the popular sweaters of Norway and witness production in action at the “living museum.” Later on, you can shop at their store. Quite easily, you can make a morning tour out to Dale and return back to Bergen in time for lunch and still relish all that Bergen has to offer during the afternoon hours.

Afterward, take the cable car to enjoy the sunset at the top of Bergen’s highest of its seven mountains and also to catch a bird’s eye view of the city. There is a bar, café, and souvenir shop at the top, as well.

Day 5: Enjoying The Viewpoint at Alesund

Do not miss this art nouveau city on your visit to Norway as it serves as the entry to Geirangerfjord, and it is rich in history, overflowing with culture, and packed with beautiful architecture. The quickest and easiest way to reach Alesund is to take a short morning flight.

On reaching Alesund, you can stroll along the harbor and the pedestrian street, Kongens Gate, in order to admire the art nouveau architecture. Visit the Art Nouveau Center to learn more about this unique town and to have a taste of their famous chocolate cake. Traverse up to the top of the town’s mountaintop till the Aksla Viewpoint to catch a bird’s eye view of Alesund. Relish a salty cod dinner at XL Diner. Later on, visit the family-run Martin Walderhaug Bakery where you’ll get to sample local Alesund sweets such as the grovkake and skilpadde. These are still made from secret family recipes dating back to the year 1893.

Day 6: Heading to Geirangerfjord

Today morning,  get on the road early and reach to the town of Geiranger, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and also the jewel of the Norwegian fjords. It’ll take around 3 hours to drive to Geiranger. Though it is just 66 miles away, you’ll wish to take your time on this lovely drive to enjoy the stunning views.

On reaching Geiranger, you’ll be eager to explore this little town. Know that it’s a small town but very laid-back.  There is just one small street right by the harbor with only a few restaurants, a few souvenir shops, a must-stop chocolate shop, a gallery, and a grocery store which closes at 6 PM. It won’t take much time to explore Geiranger at all. In the evening, you can relax and reflect as you relish the scenery and slow pace of life in Geiranger.
