Most Scenic Airports Around the World - Part 2

While traveling around the world, we have mostly concerned about the destination that the journey itself. In reality, however, there are times when the journey offers sights, more mesmerizing and beautiful than those at the destination. If you don’t believe us, check out the second part of our ongoing blog series about the most scenic airports in the world. You will definitely be surprised, and perhaps begin to regard the journey more.

Saba Airport (Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport), the Caribbean island of Saba

Named after the Aruban Minister Juancho Irausquin, this island airport definitely has one of the world’s shortest commercial runways. This 400-odd meters long runway, however, is flanked on both sides by high mountains and cliffs that drop into the sea. Although the airport only allows the propeller aircraft of regional airlines, after approval from The Netherlands Antilles' Civil Aviation Authority, the trip is truly worth the pain. Watch out for the magnificent panorama of nature’s best sights, as your aircraft fast approaches the landing spot!

Orlando Melbourne International Airport, Florida

To everyone who seeks to travel to this airport, the runway offers an awe-inspiring welcome before the aircraft even lands. As soon you land, you feel the warm, coastal headwind flapping through your hair as you try to soak-in the breathtakingly beautiful views of the beach-studded landscape. Likewise, depending on where you are coming from or going to, you will be able to catch a more-than-an-eyeful of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and the launch stations - a sight that will make your hair rise. If fortunate, you might also be able to sight a Disney ship as it departs for Port Canaveral, on its way to the Caribbean Islands.

Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Canada

Arguably, this Canadian airport features some of the gorgeous landscape views to inbound aircraft. If you are aboard a flight coming from the east, make sure to keep your eyes glued to the window, otherwise, you will miss out on the amazing views of Scarborough Bluffs, Ashbridges Bay, the CN Tower and Rogers Centre downtown. Moreover, there is something special about the spectacular views that the airport curates, set against the largest city in Canada as a backdrop, and a contrast to the island airport in Lake Ontario. Trust us, you would have never seen such mesmerizing sights of Toronto’s vibrant skyline and expansive harbor as your aircraft lowers for landing.

Princess Juliana International Airport, Sint Maarten

The most distinctive aspect of the scenic Princess Juliana International Airport is that its runway begins on a peninsula, just a few feet off St. Maarten's shore. While the airport is incredibly photogenic because of the beautiful waters lapping the beach sand, it is the brilliant backdrop of the hills to right and back of the runway that steals the show. As you land in St. Maarten, keep an eye outside the window to witness some of the most visually stunning views you will ever see in your life. Then, of course, there is the unique tradition of the place, where the local populace stands on the Maho Beach and waves to the zooming-in, low flying aircraft and the passengers inside.
