Yes, There's A Zoo In The Desert And It's Wonderful

The Palm Springs area may be known for its numerous golf courses and hot springs, but not at a lot of people are aware that Palm Desert, its neighboring city, is home to some of the most interesting animals in the world. Check out The Living Desert, a true oasis that conserves wildlife while educating and entertaining the public at the same time. Located at 47900 Portola Ave., Palm Desert, CA, this amazing zoo gives people of all ages a chance to get a closer look at a variety of amazing wildlife and plants.

The Living Desert is just about 30 minutes away from Palm Springs and is a great place to visit no matter what age you are. Whether you're out with the kids or on a trip with your adult friends, you're bound to have a blast here. The zoo houses a wide variety of animals, ranging from birds of all sizes to jungle animals, and even wild cats such as jaguars, cheetas, and the like. What's more, its size is just perfect. The location isn't big enough for people to get lost in, but at the same time, it's not too small for you to run out of things to do. Be sure to reserve one whole day visit this attraction and get to know the animals in the desert a little bit more.

Get up close and personal with the animals

One of the best things about The Living Desert is that it lets people interact directly with some of the animals. The zoo has daily giraffe feeding in the morning where you'll be able to give giraffes their much-needed breakfast. The Living Desert also offers daily camel rides from morning till afternoon, so be sure to hop on and experience this humpy but truly enjoyable ride. Aside from the above interaction opportunities, the living desert also lets you get up close and personal with a variety of animals during their wildlife wonder show, reptile show, and animal presentations. Don't forget to bring out your camera because you'll have the opportunity for pictures during these events.

Visit the animal hospital

The Living Desert also has an animal hospital on site, where you'll get the chance to see how the zoo provides health care to the animals. Chat with the doctors and medical staff and see where they conduct checkups, surgeries, and other procedures. You'll also get to see some of the animals that were taken care of and how they're recovering.

Stores for food and souvenirs

Roaming around the zoo and interacting with animals can get pretty tiring, but don't worry there's no way you'll go hungry in here. The Living Desert has two restaurants/cafes-one by the entrance that serves sandwiches, coffee, and snacks; and another in Village WaTuTu (in the African section of the zoo), which serves pizza, burgers, and more. There are also a couple of souvenir shops where you can pick up a bunch of knick-knacks, apparel, toys, and more.
