Where to Stay in Lake George
The Sagamore Hotel is not your typical resort. Settled on its own private island on Lake George in Bolton Landing, NY called Green Island, the Sagamore offers an escape from the drudgery of day-to-day life for its guests. First opened in 1883, the Victorian building itself is a sight to see. The grounds are immaculate and the building is exquisite. Following a trend in Lake George, the hotel was named after a character from a novel, The Last of the Mohicans.
The Sagamore has a unique history of a resort. The hotel has survived two fires and multiple reconstructions. It fell out of use for two years in the 1980s but has been fully restored and stands stronger than ever. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The resort attracts wealthy guests from the surrounding areas’ Millionaires Row. If you are an out of towner visiting, going to see the stately mansions is an attraction to keep on your to-do list for your stay. The historical nature of the resort extends to the activities offered. You can sail around Lake George on The Morgan, a 19th-century touring boat replica.
In the heart of the Adirondacks, the Sagamore could not have a more picturesque location. During your stay, you can enjoy the view while lounging on the lakeside beach. If you prefer an indoor swim, there is a pool and a jacuzzi. Enjoy the amenities offered at the full-service spa and salon.
In terms of activities, the Sagamore has over 10,000 square feet of indoor entertainment in The Rec, including a mini-golf course, video games, table games and an indoor basketball court. Outside, you can play basketball as well, or horseshoe, volleyball, tennis, and the kids can enjoy the playground. There are plenty of water sports. Beginners and experts alike can water ski with a trained guide. There is parasailing, wakeboarding, and tubing on the lake. You can also borrow a fishing pole and catch your own dinner.
Not that you’ll need to. The Sagamore offers fine dining options. The restaurants are upscale and there are clothing attire requirements. The bread pudding is an absolute must.
