Here’s an interesting piece of trivia - the Galapagos Island remained obscure from foreign contact for millions of years. This could be the reason that the landscape here is features an array of exotic flora and fauna, nowhere else to be found. Located at a distance of 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, this archipelago attracts scientists and researchers from around world who spend time studying the various ecosystems. Furthermore, Ecuador established its first National park here in the year 1959 and Galapagos Islands were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site later in 1978. Today, more than 200,000 people visit the Galapagos Island every year to experience the rich heritage this land has to offer.

In general, there are two types of travel modes available here. You can either take a flight from Ecuador to the three inhabited islands or take a live-aboard boat to traverse between the islands. Either way, you will need a boat to take you to these islets. So, which mode to choose? Most tourists prefer the live-aboard boat, which provides them accommodation along with the mode of travel. Best Time to Visit

The months of June to December are generally regarded as the best time to visit the islands. These are the cooler and drier months of the year respectively. You can also expect light rain (locally known as garua) during these months. Tourists usually flock to witness these light rains, which add to the overall experience of the Islands. Watching the skies turn cloudy and gray, while the water shines back giving the reflection of the heaven above, is a mesmerizing sight. Photography enthusiasts, however, should consider visiting the islands in the months of January to May, when the skies are clearer with in-between light showers.

Shops here, on San Cristóbal and Santa Cruz islands, are stocked with the usual supplies and travel essential. The prices, however, may be on the higher side especially during peak tourist season.
