If you’re planning to stay at a given place for weeks or even months (i.e. have a prolonged trip), you can certainly save a lot of money (not to mention effort) if you choose to stay at an “Extended Stay” hotel rather than a regular hotel room.
Extended stay hotels offer larger rooms that are often complete with a kitchen area and a separate bedroom. The good ones even offer voice mail services, laundry services, and other amenities. Yep, choosing an extended stay hotel can be a great decision especially when you’re trying to watch your spending. The only question is, how do you go about selecting one?
Choosing Your Extended Stay Lodging
Picking the right extended stay hotel isn’t that difficult, but it does require some research. For starters, before selecting a hotel, make sure that your itinerary is all planned out. Highlight the places that you’ll be frequenting and decide on any locations that you’re planning to visit.
Like any decision about real estate, picking your extended stay lodging is all about location, location, location. Choose an establishment that’s close to the places that you’ll be visiting. If you’re travelling for business and will be having a lot of meetings at a particular restaurant or office building, see if you can find a hotel that’s close to it. Travelling for pleasure? Then choose your favorite landmarks and pick a hotel that’s conveniently located near them.
Once you’ve narrowed down your venue choices, it’s time to take a look at the amenities that it offers. A kitchen area, a living room area, and a separate room, usually comes standard with these places, but ask anyway, to make sure that you have everything you need.
If you’ll be out and about during your trip, but need to take some phone calls, ask about the hotel’s voicemail services. After all, the last thing you want is to miss any important phone calls. You might also want to ask about the location’s Wi-Fi services, as you’ll most likely need an Internet connection to stay in touch with the rest of the world. Are you planning to travel light? If so, inquire about the establishment’s laundry services, so that you’ll always have access to fresh clothes.
Saving Time, Money and Effort with Extended Stay Establishments
A great way to save money during your trip is to lessen eating out. Fortunately, doing so is quite easy if you’re at an extended stay hotel. Since these types of hotels offer full kitchen areas (complete with a refrigerator, stove, oven, and kitchen sink), you won’t have any difficulties cooking your own meals.
Also be sure to take advantage of the hotel’s facilities (i.e. gym, pool, etc.) to make the most out of your stay. If you’re used to working out at home, don’t let your trip stop you from keeping yourself in shape. Head to the hotel gym and do your workout routine or take a dip at the pool to stretch your muscles.
Enjoy Your Stay
All in all, extended stay hotel rooms is a great option for people taking long trips. Not only are they roomier, but they offer more amenities compared to regular hotels. Be sure to consider this option the next time you go on a prolonged trip away from home.
