Safari Description

Chobe includes three iconic wildlife regions that all bear a whiff of safari myth: Chobe Riverfront, which holds the park's biggest wildlife group; the newly accessible and Okavango-like Linyanti Marshes; and the exclusive and deep Savuti, with wildlife to rival.

Throughout the safari, you will be accommodated in a 5* Eco Lodge, located about 1 hour from Kasane and is the ideal spot to explore Chobe and the neighboring area away from the crowds. The lodge allows game drives and walks in a region that adjoins the also renowned Hwange National Park without fences and this itinerary also covers a full-day trip to Chobe National Park itself. From your Eco Lodge, you will see 2 big game fields, get a pure wilderness feel at a 5* lodge and on top a delicious dining experience.

The most accessible and regularly visited of Botswana’s big game park, the Chobe Riverfront is most renowned for its vast herds of elephants and Cape Buffalo, which throughout the dry winter months unite upon the river to drink water.

During this period, on an evening game drive, you may view hundreds of elephants at one time. You may be surrounded by elephants, as the main Serondella road becomes difficult to pass and records of elephant herds cross the main road to make their way to the river to drink, bathe and play.

This Botswana safari also awards boat cruise in the Chobe River where you’ll endure the park, and the animals, from another corner. Here you’ll get up close and personal with hippo, crocodile and an overwhelming array of water birds.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival, Transfer And Afternoon Activity

After arriving  Kasane you will be greeted and taken on a 1-hour road transfer to Pandamatenga, which is home to the beautiful Wildtracks Eco Lodge. On your way to Pandamatenga, the first glimpse of the river – deep and dazzling in the sandy terrain – is always breathtaking. It appears as a swathe of splendid, peacock blue ribbon, breezing its way through the small town of Kasane, and ensuing wilderness – the Chobe National Park. Here you will stay for 3 nights and go on 2 daily shared game activities in the area, which borders Hwange National Park without fences and has a great game from May to October and a full-day Chobe National Park excursion. In the afternoon go on your first game drive. You will arrive back at the lodge in the dark, so the last part of your drive will be a night drive, to also get the chance to see nocturnal animals. During this period, on an evening game drive, you may view hundreds of elephants at one time. You may be surrounded by elephants, as the main Serondella road becomes difficult to pass and records of elephant herds cross the main road to make their way to the river to drink, bathe and play.

Day 2 - Morning And Afternoon Game Activities

You will be woken at dawn with warm water being poured into your basin and a friendly Botswana “dumela” (good day). You will be offered a quick cup of tea or coffee and a light Continental breakfast, vehicles will be ready to take you on an early morning game drive. This time of day is ideal for spotting the big cats or the rare Wild Dogs as they are still fighting at this time and possibilities of viewing them are good. Around mid to late morning visitors return to camp for a delightful “bush brunch” and a siesta taking an opportunity to take rest or take a refreshing bath. When the day begins to cool off another evening game drive follows afternoon tea, and good sightings are again visited or sites as yet to explore are visited. Chobe National Park has a wide variety of game - the cats and large herbivores such as elephant and buffalo being a highlight, but a rarer game such as Puku, Eland, Sable, and Roan antelope along with much more common antelope can be viewed here. Back to camp after dusk for a contemplative fireside chat. Dinner comes, as always accompanied by the impressive sounds of the African night. After returning to lodge, you will be spoiled with a wonderful 3-course dinner and before you go to sleep, you can sit around the boma campfire and enjoy the lid up waterhole.

Day 3 - Full-Day Chobe National Park Excursion

After a very early breakfast, leave Pandamatenga for your full-day Chobe National Park excursion. The excursion includes a 3-hour game drive in the park, a 3-hour boat cruise on the Chobe River, lunch and transfers. Chobe National Park is famous for its high elephant population and generally high chances to see the big five. You will board the boat and commence a 3-hour boat cruise into the Chobe National park. The river cruise is regarded as one of the top entertainment of the tour, as one takes the opportunity to get up close and intimate with exotic bird-life, hippos, crocodiles, and of course herds of elephant and Cape buffalo that make their way down to the river to relieve their thirst. The boat cruise finishes at the Coffee Buzz restaurant at 12.30. There is a great way to do last minute shopping in Kasane, as there are no stores within the Park. Visitors then leave on an afternoon game drive - this being the ideal time to see Chobe’s large habitats making their way down to the river to drink water. Arrive in lodge shortly after sunset for drinks around the campfire and dinner under the stars.

Day 4 - Morning Game Activity And Departure

After your last morning activity and breakfast, you will be taken back to Kasane, where you short safari ends. Transfers to Victoria Falls and Livingstone can also be arranged.
