Vienna is the capital of the Republic of Austria and also the country's primary city. Vienna is located east of Austria and close to its neighboring countries, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Hungary. Vienna is the home of some famous figures such as Johan Strauss, Schloss Schonbrunn, and Empress Sisi.

Vienna's city population is 1.5 million and 2.3 million in the metropolitan area, making it the largest city in Austria as of today and also the 10th largest city by population in Europe.

The climate is described as a humid continental climate, consisting of warm summers and relatively cold winters. Snowfall occurs during the month of December through March that goes about freezing point. Spring and autumn season are cool to mild and rainfall is generally moderate. The average January temperature is 31 degrees F (-1 degrees C) while the average July temperature is 68 degrees F (20 degrees C). The average annual rainfall is 24 inches (61 cm) and average snowfall is 10 inches (25 cm).

Vienna is famous for its wonderful buildings, full of historical significance. Most of the landmarks are located by the city's historic city center. The Hofburg and Schonbrunn Palaces are the major tourist spots around. The Hofburg Palace housed some of the most powerful people in Austria and currently serves as the official residence of the President of Austria. The Schonbrunn Palace is the former summer residence and illustrated the tastes, interests, and aspirations of the Hasburg monarchs. The name Schonbrun means 'beautiful spring' that has an artesian well from which water is drawn and consumed by the court. The world's oldest zoo is also found at the Schonbrunn Palace, the Tiergarten Schonbrunn, which was founded as an imperial menagerie in 1752 by Adrian van Stekhoven. The zoo served as a species conservation center as well as the preservation site for the building that were built during the Baroque era. The Tiergarten Schonbrun is one of the few zoos around the world to house giant pandas.

The Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery) is the largest cemetery in Vienna. The cemetery was opened in 1784 and it houses Vienna's famous and well known figures such as Luwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig Boltzman, and Franz Schubert.

The Museumsquartier is the cultural district of Vienna and the eighth largest cultural area in the world. It contains buildings that were built during the Baroque period and modern architecture. This area has been home to series of large art museums such as the Leopold Museum and the MUMOK (Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna).
