Shenzhen is the sub-province of Guangdong, a province in southern China and the richest city in the country. It is neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong. Shenzhen is also the second busiest port in China's mainland, after Shanghai. Shenzhen's novel and modern cityspace is very popular among tourists, mostly Chinese domestics. Even though Shenzhen doesn't have as many historical attractions around, it has created a lot of excellent theme parks but now became a mecca of famous architecture, shopping, bars, restaurants and art.
Shenzhen's population is approximately 14 million, making the third most populous city in China. Migration has been very common for this city for its location is neighboring Hong Kong. In 2002, there are around 7,200 Hong Kong residents commuted daily to Shenzhen to work and about 2,200 students from Shenzhen commuted to Hong Kong for school. These commuters still need to pass through customs and immigration checkpoints, resulting on the rapid change of its population.
Shenzhen's weather is mild and relatively dry during winter while spring is somehow dry. Typhoons occur from May to December and especially from July to September. The average temperature is 72 degrees F (22 degrees C) and average annual precipitation is over 90 inches (2,300 mm).
This city may not have a lot of historical sites to go to but there are a lot of theme parks and events that are happening every day. One of the major tourist attractions is the Window of the World. It is like 'Around the World in 80 Days' but 79 days less. This theme park has a130 replicas of some of the most famous tourist attractions in the world plus beautiful natural landscapes and spectacular lighting at night time fitted into a 48 hectare space. A few attractions displayed at this museum are the Eiffel Tower of France, the Acropolis of Greece, the Leaning Tower of Pisa of Italy, and the White House of the United States.
The Chinese Folk Culture Village is another famous theme park in Shengzhen that is divided into two sections: the first part is a miniature park of China, where you can learn China's folk culture and the miniature versions of the famous Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. The second part is a 56 housing village, each house representing one of the 56 nationalities in China.
Happy Valley is a large, classic fun park that the tourists say that is not bigger than Hong Kong Disneyland but a lot better in terms of its entertainment value. The park has nine different areas to go to with a different theme associated with. The most interesting area in the park is the Playa Maya Water Park, where it shows tourists a wonderful ancient world about the Mayan civilization where during the day, people can enjoy the dense woods filled with birds and reptiles while tribe dances around the water occupies the night time.
