Milan is one of Italy's famous cities and the capital of the Lombardy region and of the province of Milan. Not considered as beautiful as some Italian cities due to some parts were greatly destroyed by World War II bomb raids, the city has rebuilt itself into a thriving business capital. Milan is recognized as a world fashion and design capital where international paparazzi descend upon the city twice a year for its spring and autumn fashions. Works of arts such as the Duomo, Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper,' and La Scala are well-known in this city.

The city has a population of 1.3 million (city) and 7.4 million (metropolitan) as of 2009, making it the largest in Italy. Milan has been host to two waves of mass immigration since the end of World War II. The two waves are first from within Italy and second from outside the peninsula.

Milan experiences a humid subtropical climate. The inland plains prevail hot, humid summer and cold, damp winters and snowfalls are relatively common. The average temperatures are 39 degrees F (-3 to 4 degrees C) in January and 86 degrees F (19 to 30 degrees C) in July. The average annual precipitation is 38.3 inches (97 cm).

There are many different spots in Milan for tourists to go out and visit. In the heart of Milan is the Duomo, Milan's main cathedral and the fourth-largest church in the world. The Duomo is a massive late Gothic church in white marble, with hundreds of spires and thousands of statues on it interior and famous facade.

'The Last Supper' is a 15th century mural painting created by Leonard da Vinci for his patron Duke Ludovico and his duchess Beatrice d'Este. The painting measures 15 ft x 29 ft (450 x 870 cm) and covers the back wall of the dining hall at the church Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan.

The La Scala Theatre is one of the most renowned opera houses in the world. It was first opened in 1778 and re-opened in 2004 after extensive renovation. It is also the home to the prestigious La Scala di Milano opera company and now currently, the La Scala Theatre Chorus, La Scala Theatre Ballet and La Scala Theatre Orchestra. It was the site of the premieres of famous operas such as Norma by Vincenzo Bellini, Otello by Giuseppe Verdi, and Madama Butterfly and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is a 19th century palace filled with upscale shops, thus, the mother of all shopping malls. The palace is a double arcade formed of two-glass vaulted arcades. It contains boutiques such as Louis Vuitton and Prada. It becomes an enchanting place during Christmas time, with beautiful lights and sparkly decorations.
