Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region of Italy. The city is well known as the birthplace of Italian Renaissance, as well as the Athens of the Middle Ages. One of the most famous squares is the Piazza del Duomo located in the heart of Florence's historical center and one of the most visited place in Europe and in the world. The Florence Cathedral, Giotto's Campanile, Florence Baptistery, and Loggia del Bigallo are some of the attractions you can find at this square.
The Ufiizi Gallery is one of the oldest fine art museums. The collection of Renaissance paintings and sculptures are found at this museum. Built by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 and finished in 1581, some of the famous paintings are displayed at this museum such as Leonardo da Vinci's The Annunciation, Michelangelo's The Donit Tondo, and Raphael's Madonna of the Goldfinch.
The Accademia museum is also another famous museum located in Florence, It has two branches: The Accademia di Belle Arti (fine arts) and Accademia delle Arti del Disegno (drawing). These two branches was founded in 1563 by Cosimo I de' Medici under Girogio Vasari's influence. Michaelangelo's world famous sculpture, David, is located at the Gallery at the Accademia di Belle Arti since 1873.
