Barcelona's population is 1.6 million (city) and 4.9 million (metropolitan), making this Spain's largest city after Madrid. 62% of its population were born in Catalonia and 23.5% come from the rest of Spain. About 95% of the population can understand Catalan language, which is Catalonia's native language.

The climate in Barcelona is classified as Mediterranean, with mild, humid winters and warm, dry summers. The winds are in low humidity, which produces no rain. August, September, October, and November are the wettest months of the year while the driest are February, March, June, and July. The average winter temperature is 50 degrees F (10 degrees C) while the average summer temperature is 78 degrees F (26 degrees C). The average annual rainfall is 23.2 inches (58 cm).

There are plenty of famous spots for tourists to come out and check in Barcelona. Most of their landmarks are comprises of Medieval architecture and one of the best places to go to is the Barri Gotic. Barri Gotic (or Gothic Quarter) is the focal point of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings found at this venue dated back from the Medieval times, and some from far back during the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Some landmarks that can be found are the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, Basilica of La Merce, and Church of Santa Maria del Pi.

The Sagrada Familia is one of Anotni Gaudi most remarkable works located in the Barri Gotic in Barcelona. This massive landmark can be seen throughout the city. This has been under construction since 1882 and still unfinished. Because of the money used for building this church is coming from private donations, the completion is set for at least 2026. However, a portion of the church's interior is scheduled to open by September 2010. The church will be consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI on November 2010.

The Placa d'Espanya is one of the most important squares in Barcelona, created for the 1929 World Exhibition. The square was built on a site where it was previously used for public hangings until the creation of the Ciutadella fortress in 1718 but it was later demolished. Currently, the fountain located in the center of the square is a great attraction where great music plays during the summer.
